Just before 1 p.m. on Monday, April 13, PSEG was reporting 384 outages that were impacting 8,055 of their 1,161,417 customers.
In Suffolk, there were 4,808 outages, while there were 2,600 in Nassau.
Huntington was hit the hardest, with 1,961 reported outages, followed by Oyster Bay (1,438 outages), North Hempstead (1,011), Brookhaven (777), Smithtown (697), Riverhead (644), and Babylon (432).
Other outages were reported in Hempstead, Islip, Southampton, and Southold.
“With heavy rain and a high wind warning in effect, there is a potential for power outages caused by fallen trees and branches,” PSEG announced on its website. “Hazardous winds are expected this afternoon. PSEG Long Island is ready to respond and will work as quickly as possible when it is safe to do so.”
PSEG officials said that the company and its employees would be following proper social distancing protocols as they make repairs.
“Some repair work may be delayed until hazardous winds have subsided and because of new health best practices, such as social distancing. We also expect a limited ability to bring in crews from other utilities,” the company stated. “Our first priority in power restoration is critical facilities, particularly hospitals. Rest assured that we work 24/7 until all power is back on.”
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning that will be in effect until 6 p.m. on Monday. A coastal flood advisory has also been issued.
